Who I Am
The first thing you should know about me is that all my life, I’ve pulled myself up by my bootstraps. I’m a proud single mother and grandmother, and a practical, self-made woman with common sense that is sorely needed in the state legislature.
Colorado State House District 18Colorado House District 18 is located in El Paso County and includes central Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs.
Starting as a typist and keypunch operator, I ultimately was promoted to a supervisory position at 19 years old. The company I worked for at the time had a large computer installation, which led me to ask the company computer rep what it would take to get a job at his firm. At age 20, I obtained a job as a secretary at IBM. With the educational support of that company, I was able to have almost a 20-year career in administration, sales, marketing, and management. It’s through my work at IBM that I was able to attend executive education courses at Harvard and develop effective leadership and business management skills through many varied assignments throughout the country.
I know how to work on a budget. As a single mom, through my professional career, and as a small business owner, I have worked with budgets big and small. My career at IBM included having general management and profit and loss responsibility for a $35 million business unit.
And then I came to Colorado. It was like love at first sight. Eighteen years ago, I settled in Colorado Springs. I created my own small business as a financial advisor. For twenty years, I have been dedicated to helping create financial peace of mind and confidence for my clients.
As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and Accredited Investment Fiduciary, I have always committed to putting my client’s interests first. This includes providing financial planning services as a “fiduciary” – acting in the best interest of her financial planning clients.
Oh, and my son, that I set out to create a better life for? He graduated summa cum laude from Georgia Tech, with a masters in mechanical engineering. Pushing forward, despite the obstacles, and learning from mistakes, he has managed to have a long, successful career as a professional racecar driver. He has also made me a grandma. I have two granddaughters who I cherish.
